Our History:
Knights of Pythias Gaston Lodge #104 was chartered on November 8th 1908 by Joseph Westcott, Rock Hull, Charles Westcott, and Dr. James A. Baker. The building was built in 1914, then had a major renovation in 1992.
Our lodge currently has 63 members and growing every year. We are cornucopia of backgrounds and connections within the community and surrounding area.
The Order of Knights of Pythias is an international, non-sectarian fraternal order established in Washington, DC, on February 19, 1864, by Justus H. Rathbone. It was the first fraternal order to be chartered by an Act of Congress.
Our fraternal order follows three distinguishing principles, Friendship, Charity, and Benevolence. Domains of the Order exist in most states and provinces, and subordinate lodges are located in many cities and towns across the United States, Canada, and Europe.
Our order bases its lessons and builds its ritual mainly on the familiar story of the friendship of Damon and Pythias. These historical characters lived about four hundred or more years before the beginning of the Christian era. They were members of a school founded by Pythagoras, the father of Greek philosophy. Their loyalty to each other, the adventures that beset them, and the outcome of this noble friendship form the basis for one of the most beautiful stories of history, as exemplified in our ritual.
Bingo: Come join us Saturday nights.
Wapato Showdown: Our largest fundraising event that is held annually in late August. Established in 1997 it quickly became a major event in Oregon drawing cars from all over the Northwest and beyond. The event takes place at Brown Park in Gaston and the festivities run from Thursday till Saturday including the community night out Thursday nights held by the Gaston Parent Teacher Organization. Friday night we host the Good Ol Days Parade and the Sisters of Pythians host a Steak Feed. Saturday is the day of the car show with raffles and all day fun. All three nights have live music and beer gardens and this 3 day event is getting bigger and more involved with the community each year. Please click the link for more info.
If you are interested in joining our lodge please reach out to any of the members or visit the contact page to ask for more info. Guests are encouraged to get involved and join our organization. We will kindly ask non members to leave the business meetings while we conduct business but you are welcome to come meet the guys and get involved with the community. If you are not interested in joining but wanting to volunteer more with the community that is fine as well, feel free to reach out to us for more info on how to get more involved.
